If they DON’T insist on their students abiding by those rules, the value of the diploma itself will be in free-fall. As it stands, prospective students have been having second thoughts about signing up for crippling debt for a school whose reputation is NOT what it once was.

It’s not a great day to be (Claudine) Gay in Harvard.
This is exactly the problem with performative diversity hires rather than picking the most competent person of whatever background to fill a position.
If she is still seen as worthy of her position, that TOO is sending a message to America.
The message we might take from it is that Harvard, as an institution, is no longer worthy of our respect.
